How to use essential oils for happiness

Who wants to feel happy? I do, that’s why I’ve done my research and I’m gladly sharing it with you.

One of the ways you can increase your happiness is by balancing your brain chemistry. Our brain is constantly stimulated by information coming in from all 5 senses. Things we see, hear, taste, touch and smell. All this information can easily bring your brain out of balance and tip the scale leaving you feel sad, overwhelmed and anxious.

While there are many ways we can tip the scale in the direction of joy and happiness, I would like to share my favorite way. I like it so much because it is EASY to use, it is very gentle and safe and crazy effective. You can feel the difference in the way you feel in 30 seconds.

I like to inhale my favorite essential oils through my left nostril!

Your sense of smell is clinically proven to be 10,000 times more acute than your other senses and it connects directly to the part of your brain that regulates the release of several major hormones. These hormones directly impact how you feel and how you function.

Inhaling an essential oil through the left nostril helps to stimulate the left frontal lobe (responsible for feeling happy) and create balance between the left and right hemispheres of the brain, which then balances the over-activity of the right frontal lobe (when overstimulated it is responsible for feeling sad or anxious) and leads to feelings of calm. This also strengthens the left prefrontal cortex – the feel-good center of the brain.

There is beauty in simplicity…

Favorite Oils to Inhale Through the Left Nostril

You can choose your favorite scents to inhale through your left nostril. Some of my favorites include:

Wild orange essential oil is like sunshine in the bottle and  “demonstrates anxiety reducing activity” in an animal rat study

Rose essential oil is known to calm, relax and soothe nerves and demonstrates strong stress management and anti-depressant qualities. Research reveals the anxiolytic-like (anxiety reducing) properties of rose oil. “Inhalation of rose essential oil produced an anxiolytic-like effect similar to diazepam (a medication used for anxiety first marketed as Valium).

In addition, Nobel Prize–winning researcher Linda Buck found that Rose essential oil can counteract your brain’s fear response to predator odor. It means that you feel less fear and more love when smelling rose essential oil!

Frankincense is the king of all oils and it promotes positive feelings.

Frankincense oil has also been shown to offer a natural solution for mild to moderate cases of depression. Frankincense contains the chemical constituent Incensole Acetate, which has been found to stimulate Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid (TRPV3) channels in the brain that “may play a role in emotional regulation.” Research found this constituent of Frankincense to relieve anxiety and depression in animal studies.

Inhale an essential oil of your choice every 3 hours. I like to use wild orange and peppermint in the first part of the day to increase energy and focus; rose, frankincense and lavender when I want to wind down. Experiment with JOY!

If you would like to try using essential oils to cultivate more happiness, I urge you to use high quality oils without any added chemicals. I live a detox lifestyle and I believe this is the reason I feel so good:).
